This web site provides resources principally to the building industry. Educators involved in the design phase of a school construction or remodeling project can take advantage of the High Performance School Buildings program at SBIC.

Massachusetts Electric Company Green Up Program

GreenUp is a program established by the energy delivery company National Grid to support the development of renewable energy. It is offered in Massachusetts through Massachusetts Electric and Nantucket Electric, National Grid companies. GreenUp allows consumers to choose to have all or part of their electricity generated from renewable resources, while remaining a National Grid customer. Billing and customer service continue to come from a consumer’s regular utility (i.e., Massachusetts Electric or Nantucket Electric). In Massachusetts four renewable energy suppliers (Community Energy, CET & Conservation Services Group, Mass Energy, and Sterling Planet) participate in the GreenUp program and offer renewable energy to Massachusetts Electric and Nantucket Electric customers.

Integrated Waste Services Association

The Integrated Waste Services Association represents companies that use trash to produce energy as part of a community's integrated solid waste plans. The association's website offers "WasteWorld", a middle school curriculum addressing environmental, economic, and energy-related issues associated with municipal solid waste management. Originally developed with the support of DOE's National Renewable Energy Laboratory, this multimedia simulation presents a balanced view of source reduction, recycling, waste-to-energy, and landfilling and enables students to recommend solid waste management plans for their communities. The most recent package includes a slide show, interactive computer software for both Macintosh and Windows on CD-ROM, revised student activities and teacher's guide, a glossary, and resources to supplement student research.
