| Project Overview: |
| Webb Research Corporation (WRC) designs and manufactures scientific instruments for oceanographic research and monitoring. Daniel Webb, president of the corporation, sees renewable energy technology as both a profitable and an environmentally helpful way of diversifying his family business. WRC completed a feasibility study in 2005 and determined that the wind resources onsite were more than adequate to match a utility scale turbine. WRC is now installing a utility scale wind turbine (roughly 1.5 Megawatts) at the highest point in the Falmouth Technology Park. The project is undergoing design, including site survey and preparation, public interaction, permitting, and foundation design. Construction is planned for 2008 or 2009. The turbine will be sited on one of two four-acre lots owned by Webb, 180 feet above sea level, with a distant view of Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound. Located next to WRC, Associates of Cape Cod, Inc., is a leading global supplier to the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, life science, and medical communities. Its operations have an annual electricity need of about 5,500,000 kWh with an average peak demand of 1,000 kW. Associates of Cape Cod may be a key purchaser of the electricity. |
