Healey-Driscoll Administration Awards $1.3 Million to Increase Access to Cloud Computing for Massachusetts Innovators

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – Today, the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced a $1.3 million, two-year grant to Boston University to expand and improve the capabilities of the New England Research Cloud (NERC). NERC serves as a collaborative, world-class cloud computing service housed at the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC) in Holyoke.

Massachusetts eHealth Institute (MeHI) Medicaid Challenge winner receives $50,000

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – The winner of Massachusetts eHealth Institute’s (MeHI) first Medicaid Challenge is Tembo Health. Tembo Health will receive a $50,000 grant to pilot their remote monitoring technology with members of the nonprofit health insurance company, WellSense.

Healey-Driscoll Administration Invests $555,000 in New Health AI Lab

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – The Healey-Driscoll Administration has awarded $555,000 to support the establishment of the Health AI Assurance Laboratory located at UMass Chan Medical School and run in partnership with Bedford-based MITRE Corporation. The new lab will be supported through the Technology & Innovation Ecosystem Awards Program managed by the Innovation Institute at the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, along with $137,000 in matching investments from the private sector.

Massachusetts Receives $14.1 Million in Federal Funding to Expand Digital Access

The Biden-Harris Administration and the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced that Massachusetts had been allocated $14.1 million from the State Digital Equity Capacity Grant Program, an “Internet for All” initiative designed to give individuals and communities the tools, skills and opportunities they need for meaningful access to high-speed Internet service.

Northeast Microelectronics Coalition Hub Steps Up for Federal Project Call

BOSTON – The Northeast Microelectronics Coalition (NEMC) Hub has submitted 15 proposals to the federal government’s Microelectronics Commons Call for Projects launched in late calendar year 2023, pulling together collaborative projects that span the NEMC Hub’s 170 member organizations from across the Northeast. Highlighting the Hub’s strength in diverse sectors, its submissions covered all six of the critical technology execution areas identified by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) including 5G/6G technology, AI Hardware, Commercial Leap Ahead Technologies, Electromagnetic Warfare, Secure Edge/IoT computing, and Quantum Technologies.

$22 Million Retrofit Program to Expand High-Speed Internet Access in Affordable Housing Statewide

WESTBOROUGH, MA – Today, the Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI) at MassTech announced the launch of the Residential Internet Retrofit Program, a $22 million statewide initiative to equip public and affordable housing units across the state with high-speed internet for current and future residents. MBI will bring together Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and property owners to upgrade in-building telecommunications wiring, equipment, and infrastructure within older housing developments to provide residents with the necessary network capabilities to fully utilize high-speed internet service essential for daily activities such as communicating with friends and family, remote work, online educational opportunities, and telehealth appointments.

Healey-Driscoll Administration Grants Over $3 Million to Boost Manufacturing Statewide

WESTBOROUGH, MASS. — Today, the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced 17 new grantees from the Massachusetts Manufacturing Accelerate Program (MMAP) during an event in Charlestown. A total of $3,144,982 was awarded to the manufacturers, empowering them to purchase new capital equipment to enhance production, meet customer demand, increase workforce skills for employees, and boost job creation.

Healey-Driscoll Administration’s $1.4 Million Grant to Phoenix Tailings Advances Sustainable Production of Rare Earth Metals in Massachusetts

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – Today, the Healey-Driscoll Administration granted $1.4 million to Woburn-based Phoenix Tailings, a company that has developed technologies to more sustainably mine rare earth metals through a zero-waste approach. The project, funded by the Massachusetts Manufacturing Innovation Initiative (M2I2) at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing will support Phoenix Tailings’ novel approach to metal production, which utilizes highly efficient and carbon neutral processes to create additional value from rare earth metals, such as neodymium and dysprosium. These metals are essential to many critical technologies including electric vehicles, wind turbines, nuclear reactors, and jet engines.

Massachusetts Broadband Institute Expands Municipal Planning Program to 16 Additional Cities and Towns Statewide

WESTBOROUGH, MA – The Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI) at MassTech has announced a third group of 16 cities and towns participating in the Commonwealth’s Municipal Digital Equity Planning Program. The program provides municipalities across the state with free strategic planning from pre-qualified consultants to help cities and towns determine the main impediments to internet access and help focus on solutions to bridge the existing digital divide, and tackle issues around affordability, digital literacy training, device access, and other barriers.

Healey-Driscoll Administration Invests $800K for Biomanufacturing in Southeastern Massachusetts

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – Today, the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced $800,000 to bolster the biomanufacturing sector in Southeastern Massachusetts through a new grant to the Mansfield Bio-Incubator, a regional biotech and life sciences incubator that assists local entrepreneurs and startups to accelerate their projects, attract new talent, provide training, and boost capital investment.
