New Grant to Boost BlueTech Innovation at UMass-Boston

October 14, 2022

BOSTON – The Baker-Polito Administration yesterday announced a new $820,000 innovation grant to UMass Boston from the Seaport Economic Council (SEC), which will invest in new research and development tools on the waterfront campus and to spur engagement with innovative BlueTech startups. The SEC’s Innovation Grant program, managed by the Innovation Institute at the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MassTech), will also boost increased engagement between UMass Boston and the local BlueTech community through an expanded partnership with Boston-based SeaAhead, an organization launched in 2018 to support startups focused on innovation and sustainability in the world’s oceans.

Baker-Polito Administration Celebrates Tech Talent Diversity through Three New Awards

BOSTON – Housing and Economic Development Secretary Mike Kennealy joined leaders from the tech and innovation sector at Rapid7 in Boston today for the announcement of three new grants from the Commonwealth’s Tech Talent Diversity Initiative, an effort aimed at boosting diversity hiring and training opportunities for diverse candidates. The three grants, totaling $494,947, were awarded to Hack.Diversity in Boston, Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology in Boston, and Tech Foundry in Springfield.

Keva Health of Lexington Wins COVID-19 Connect Tech Innovation Challenge

WESTBOROUGH – On Friday, April 9th, 2021, a panel of expert judges declared Keva Health of Lexington the winner of the Massachusetts COVID-19 Connect Tech Innovation Challenge, a competition focused on entrepreneurs and startups working on innovative solutions to enhance resiliency and guard against potential future disruptions in industries like ecommerce, manufacturing, digital health, FinTech, and EdTech.

Baker-Polito Administration Launches BlueTech Tech and Innovation Grant Program

BOSTON — Today, the Baker-Polito Administration announced the launch of the Seaport Economic Council’s BlueTech Tech and Innovation Grant program, established to identify new business and technology approaches that address the needs of the Commonwealth’s coastal communities.

Following up on the success of the Seaport Economic Council Grand Challenge in 2018, the BlueTech Tech and Innovation Grant program seeks proposals from municipalities, entrepreneurs, and technology firms interested in developing innovative solutions to improve the economies of our marine industries and coastal communities. Applicants can propose business or technology solutions that focus on sectors such as commercial fishing, aquaculture, maritime monitoring or security, shipping, marine biotechnology, offshore renewable energy, and more.

Baker-Polito Administration Announces Over $3.7 Million to Spur Innovation in Advanced Manufacturing

MARLBOROUGH – January 17, 2019 – Today, Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito joined Marlborough Mayor Arthur G. Vigeant and Representative Carmine L. Gentile to announce $3.7 million in new grants from the Massachusetts Manufacturing Innovation Initiative (M2I2), the Commonwealth’s program to invest in innovative advanced manufacturing projects. The Lt. Governor announced three awards that involve partners and project sites across the Commonwealth, including MetroWest, Merrimack Valley, South Coast, North Shore, and Western Massachusetts, highlighting the statewide impact of advanced manufacturing.

Baker-Polito Administration Funds Aging Innovation Hub in Cambridge

BOSTON – During an event today at the Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) in Kendall Square, the Baker-Polito Administration awarded a $100,000 grant providing seed funding for AGENCY, a new coworking innovation hub for collective impact where entrepreneurs, enterprises, elders, and experts can work side-by-side to explore and apply ideas for aging populations around the globe. AGENCY forms a crossroads where innovators in all sectors with aging and longevity as a lens will be able to meet, host events, engage the healthcare community in Greater Boston, turn their ideas into commercial successes, and grow their companies (http://cic.com/agency).

Commonwealth Awards $5 Million R&D Grant for WHOI Marine Robotics Center

December 19, 2014

WOODS HOLE, MASS. – The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has awarded the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) a $5 million grant toward the construction of new facilities for the testing and research into innovative marine robotics such autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The five-year grant award is being made as part of the Collaborative Research and Development Matching Grant Program, managed by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MassTech). The grant to WHOI’s Center for Marine Robotics will help accelerate the deployment of new and existing marine robotics technologies in Massachusetts.
